Memorandum of Understanding
A MoU will be signed at the Königsworth Castle in Hannover on June 28, 2012.
It formalizes the collaboration between (i) Universiti Teknologi MARA, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, 40450 Shah Alam, Selangor, Malaysia, and (ii) Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft zur Foerderung der angewandten Forschung e.V., Hansastr. 27 c, 80686 Munich, Germany, as legal entity for its Fraunhofer-Institute for Production Technology IPT, Aachen, Project Group Mechatronic Systems Design (IPT-EM), Paderborn.
Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft is Europe’s largest research organisation with more than 18,000 employees and 80 research units in Germany, including 60 Fraunhofer Institutes. Its annual research budget is about 1.66 billion Euros. Of this sum, more than €1.40 billion is generated through contract research. More than 70 percent of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft’s contract research revenue is derived from contracts with industry and from publicly financed research projects. Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft develops products and processes right up to commercial maturity. Individual solutions are sought in direct contact with the customer. The key objective of Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft is to transform scientific expertise into applications of practical utility.
The cooperation comprises the following:
- Joint research and development projects in the area of Mechatronic Systems Design and Systems Engineering;
- Joint organization of conferences, workshops, seminars and expositions;
- Joint publications in the field of mutual interest;
- Joint supervision of research students; and
- Exchange of faculty members, students and scientists.
A technical tour to the Mechatronics Centre Hannover is scheduled on June 26, 2012. The UiTM delegation will visit the Institute of Dynamics and Vibration Research, the Institute of Automatic Control as well as the Institute of Mechatronic Systems.
